TELL ME MY NAME

TELL ME MY NAME

You’ll find riddles in the Bible and riddles in The Hobbit and riddles in every place on earth - they remind us just how mysterious the world can be.

Over many years, leading New Zealand poet Bill Manhire has translated Old English riddles. Tell Me My Name is a selection of these, alongside new riddles written by Manhire. The riddles are performed as songs, in settings ranging from meditative ballads to joyful jigs. The sublime voice of  Wellington’s Hannah Griffin is woven in counterpoint with Martin Riseley on violin (concertmaster of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra) and composer Norman Meehan at the piano.

This charming show sees Bill Manhire introduce and narrate these tantalising riddles followed by the musical interpretation from this exquisite trio. Try to guess the answer to each riddle for yourself.
